To not decry the heinous act of vandalism in the form of racial slurs recently etched into the property of the 200-year-old St. Daniel’s Community Church of Iron Hill is to be complicit with the vile message of hate in such an act. Who will stand up to renounce this? Will officials and leaders in our communities? Other clergy and faith leaders? Will other news outlets cover these types of hate crimes and incidents, so there can be public acknowledgment?
Anyone who believes in the sanctity of church, mosque, temple and love of their fellow citizens should not let this or any act of hate be just another story that gets passed over, as if nothing can be done. These acts cannot become commonplace, and I call for those who agree to make their voices heard.
Speak Out Against Hate and its members stand in solidarity with St. Daniel’s Community Church in speaking out against this horrible crime of hate.
