It’s clear from the endless mass shootings our country is enduring that we are at a crisis point. It’s time that each of us needs to take action to reduce gun violence.
I have a plan for you to follow.
For 17 years, starting in 1994, the U.S. policy on military service of nonheterosexual people was called “don’t ask, don’t tell.” I suggest we borrow that phrase and turn it on its head — do ask, do tell.
Each Delawarean is represented in Washington by two senators and one representative. Contact them and ask them if they will support safe gun legislation, especially an assault weapons ban, universal background checks and permits to purchase firearms. If they don’t support these measures, tell them you will not vote for them in their next election and that you will ask everyone you know to do the same.
Do ask, do tell.
