DOVER — Four Henlopen Conference schools are among the 16 teams that made the field for the first official DIAA state tournament in boys’ volleyball.
There have been state tourneys held in the past but this will be the first one officially sanctioned by the DIAA. That’s because there are now enough boys’ volleyball programs in Delaware to meet the minimum requirement.
The tournament starts with matches on Thursday and Friday evening.
On Thursday, No. 2 Cape Henlopen (13-1) will host No. 15 Sussex Academy (8-6) at 6 p.m. On Friday, No. 7 Indian River (10-3) hosts No. 10 Newark Charter (10-5) at 6 p.m. with No. 6 Smyrna (13-2) hosting Mt. Pleasant (10-5) at 6 p.m.
Salesianum (14-0) is the top seed in the bracket. The second round of the tournament is slated for May 16.
