DOVER — A 59-year-old Dover female was critically injured Wednesday in a head-on crash with a city police vehicle.
At 7:59 a.m., the woman was driving east on South Little Creek Road, attempting to make a left turn onto Signal Street. However, her vehicle collided with a fully marked Dover Police Department SUV that was traveling west on South Little Creek Road, police said.
As a result, authorities said the woman was trapped inside her vehicle, and the Dover Fire Department responded to free her. Once removed, she was airlifted to a New Castle County hospital, where she remained in critical condition Thursday morning.
The officer in the SUV, a four-year veteran, was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Both vehicles sustained disabling damage.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating and asks witnesses to contact Cpl. Kody Frye at 302-736-7122, ext. 621.
