Athlete of the Week: Colby Rail, Caesar Rodney baseball

CAMDEN — Caesar Rodney High baseball player Colby Rall was voted State News Athlete of the Week.

The junior reached base seven times in a pair of wins for the Riders last week. Rall had five hits, with two home runs, a double and five RBI while also pitching two scoreless innings.

For the season, Rall is batting .483 Avg. (14-for-29) with six extra-base hits, 12 RBI and nine runs scored. As a pitcher, he’s allowed only four earned runs and two walks in nine innings with 17 strikeouts.

“Colby has been the catalyst for our offense this year,” said CR coach Jeff Gravatt. “He sees the ball tremendously well and puts the ball in play hard somewhere almost every time he comes to the plate. He is difficult for teams to pitch to especially since he is protected by Teegan Monroney behind him.

“Colby is an incredibly versatile player. He was an infielder last year that converted to outfield out of necessity. He has not only accepted this roll but has excelled in this new role. He started working out there towards the end of last year and really spent time this offseason preparing to hold it down this season.

"He is a wonderful young man on and off the field and is loved by his teammates. We love coaching Colby and can’t wait to see the future holds for this young man. He represents the school and the baseball program well.”
