FELTON — A 44-year-old Woodside man died in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection Wednesday.
At approximately 7:36 a.m., a Volvo truck pulling an empty trailer was traveling on Sandtown Road and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Burnite Mill Road, Delaware State Police said.
Meantime, a Ford F-650 was traveling west on Burnite Mill Road, approaching Sandtown Road. The Volvo then turned eastbound on Burnite Mill Road, causing its trailer to enter the path of the F-650, according to authorities.
The driver attempted to steer the F-650 to the right to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful, causing the vehicle to underride the Volvo’s trailer, troopers said. Both trucks and the trailer ended up in a soybean field off Sandtown Road.
The driver of the F-650 was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of kin.
The other driver, a 48-year-old Bear man, was not injured.
The road was closed for approximately five hours.
The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and asks witnesses to contact Master Cpl. W. Booth at 302-698-8451, send a message via the state police Facebook page or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
