BRIDGEVILLE — Marvin Dooley, who coached William Penn High to a DIAA Division I state title in 2014, has been named the new head football coach at Woodbridge.
Dooley replaces Jed Bell, who is leaving the Blue Raiders to become an associate principal at Seaford Middle School.
A former standout athlete at William Penn, Dooley has also been hired as Woodbridge’s new athletic director. Along with football, he coached both baseball and wrestling at his alma mater.
Mostly recently, Dooley was the head football coach at St. Elizabeth, finishing 9-18 with the Vikings in three seasons.
Dooley, who pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization, has coached for over two decades, has previously been the head football coach at Avon Grove, Pa. for five seasons.
Woodbridge has become one of the Henlopen Conference’s most successful football programs in recent years. The Blue Raiders have reached the DIAA Division II state tournament six seasons in a row while winning a pair of state titles and making the state finals another time in that span.
A former assistant at the school, Bell was Woodbridge’s head coach the past two seasons after taking over for Ed Manlove. Bell went 16-3 in his two seasons.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Woodbridge for the last ten years — ten of the best years of my life,” Bell posted on social media when he took the job at Seaford.
