UNION, N.J. — The Wesley College Football team kept its momentum rolling Saturday afternoon, earning a third consecutive win against a New Jersey Athletic Conference rival by taking down host Kean University 48-17.

With their third straight victory, the Wolverines improved to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the NJAC to remain in a tie for first place in the conference  along with Christopher Newport, Frostburg State, Rowan, and Salisbury, who were all winners on Saturday as well.

The Wolverines will travel to Glassboro, N.J., next week to take on Rowan in a critical NJAC clash.

Dan Kesack threw for 267 yards on 19-for-27 passing and a pair of touchdowns, and Jamar Baynard led all rushers with 24 carries for 114 yards and a score to key Saturday’s win. Elijah Minter punched in a pair of touchdown runs as well.

Alex Kemp and Bryce Shade each caught a touchdown pass as they went for 92 and 93 yards receiving, respectively. Eric Speidel nailed a 22-yard field goal and six extra points while Nick Bruhn drilled a 36-yarder.

Samer Manna finished with 10 total tackles and a QB hurry, while Isaiah Ingram recorded the Wolverines only sack of the day in one of his two tackles. Anthony Brinkley recorded a tackle, two pass breakups and an interception as the Wolverines held the Cougars to 355 yards of total offense.

Kean scored first, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Wolverines responded with a 24-3 run to end the half. In response to the Cougars’ touchdown, Kesack drove the Wolverines 83 yards on 17 plays for a score. The junior quarterback connected with Alex Kemp to finish the drive with a 12-yard  touchdown pass.

On the next Kean offensive series, Anthony Brinkley picked off a pass to give the Wolverines good field position. The Wolverines struck quickly, scoring on their first offensive play as Kesack found Shade for a 54-yard pitch-and-catch for the score, making it 14-7 Wolverines.

After Kean drove the field for a field goal to make it 14-10, Alex Kemp ripped off a 52-yard kickoff return to set up the Wolverines in prime scoring position. Nine plays later, Baynard barrelled into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown rush, making it 21-10.

Nick Bruhn made a 36-yard field goal just before the half to give Wesley a 24-10 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Wolverines opened with a scoring drive as Dan Kesack rushed for a 22-yard score. After the defense earned a stop, Wesley scored again. This time it was an Eric Speidel field goal to make it 34-10.

Elijah Minter rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Wolverines ran out the clock for most of the period. Overall, Wesley had possession for 38:04, limiting the Cougars to just a 21:56 time of possession.
