Nick Bruhn nailed a 35-yard field goal in overtime and the Wesley defense blocked a field goal to win a 27-24 game over Frostburg State on the road on Saturday afternoon. Wesley won its fourth game in a row and improved to 4-0 in the NJAC (4-1 overall).

The Wesley defensive line got pressure up the middle on Frostburg State’s potential game-tying kick and Stephen Yorkman got his hand on it to seal the victory for the Wolverines.

Frostburg State also had a chance to win the game on their final possession, pushing the ball down to Wesley’s 32-yard line. But Hassan Mostafa’s 49-yard attempt went wide right to send the game to overtime.

Wesley also needed to engineer a game-tying drive in the closing minutes.

Marcquan Greene gave Wesley great field position on the a kickoff return to put the ball on the Frostburg 42-yard line. Wesley got into the red zone following a 42-yard completion from Khaaliq Burroughs to Andrew Eagle that put Wesley at the 15-yard line. After three run plays that couldn’t punch the ball into the end zone, Bruhn’s boot from 26 yards out tied the game at 24 with 4:45 left in regulation.

The Wolverines notched 439 yards of total offense. Burroughs went 14-for-23 passing for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Burroughs also picked up 57 rushing yards on 13 attempts. Lee carried the ball 24 times for 138 yards. E.J. Lee also added 67 yards receiving on his touchdown reception from Burroughs in the third quarter.

Alex Kemp reeled in eight passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Eagle caught two passes from Burroughs for 58 yards.

Bruhn went a perfect 2-of-2 in field goal attempts and 3-of-3 in point-after tries.

Cappadonna Miller paced the Wolverine defense with 12 tackles and an interception. Yorkman and Samer Manna each recorded 11 tackles. Yorkman added 1.5 tackles for loss. DaJahn Lowery and Mike Sabino each registered nine tackles while Lowery forced and recovered a fumble in the second quarter.

Wesley trailed 10-7 at halftime. Wesley took the lead when Burroughs hit Kemp for a 56-yard touchdown on Wesley’s opening drive of the second half.

After Frostburg’s Connor Cox was intercepted by Shareef Jefferies, Burroughs swung a pass out to Lee who took it 67 yards for a touchdown and a 21-10 advantage.

On Wesley’s next offensive drive, the Wolverines were inside the Frostburg 20-yard line when FSU’s Monte Jones forced a Lee fumble inside the five-yard line which was recovered by Josh Scales at the one-yard line.

Frostburg capitalized on the Wesley turnover when Cox connected with Sergio Andino in the back of the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown following a 79-yard run by Gavin Lavat.

Frostburg took the lead 24-21 when Cox completed an 18-yard pass to Joe Beckford for a touchdown with 7:40 left in regulation but Wesley responded with the back-to-back field goals by Bruhn and Yorkman’s block.
