Wilmer Mitchell

Greensboro - Wilmer Mitchell passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Kent General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on June 22, 1931 in Hartly, Del. to the late Letitia Mitchell and foster father Ty Pruitt. Wilmer had been employed with Chrysler Motor Company for 13 years before opening Mitchell's Used Cars and Parts of Greensboro. He operated Mitchell's with his wife "Tink" for over 55 years. He and Marjorie "Tink" Hanley were married on Oct. 3, 1953. He was a US Army Korean Conflict veteran. Wilmer was a life member of the American Legion #29, the Caroline Memorial VFW #7937, and member of the Camden Moose Lodge #203. His hobbies included following NASCAR, being a Dale Earnhardt fan, antique cars and hunting. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Lou Mitchell and son, Brian K. Mitchell; brothers, Billy Mitchell and Rodney Mitchell; and sisters, Eleanor Mitchell and Dorothy Whited. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie "Tink" Mitchell; son, Wilmer L. "Joe" Mitchell of Greensboro; daughter, Wilma Ann Buckle and husband, Buck of Goldsboro; brothers, Vernon Mitchell and wife Patricia, Robert Mitchell and wife Patricia; and sister, Rosetta Mitchell all of Smyrna, Del.; seven grandchildren, Ben Buckle, III and wife Elba, Barry Buckle, Ashley Mitchell, Marjorie Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell and Kourtney Radcliffe; four great-grandchildren, Christine Greer, Kassidy Buckle, Kaytlin Buckle, and Ben Buckle, IV. A funeral service for Wilmer will be on Wednesday, April 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Greensboro Baptist Church, Main St. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the church.
