SALISBURY - Willie Ray "Pete" Brooks and formerly of Linkwood, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake with his family at his side. Born on Jun. 13, 1936 in Mineral, Va., he was the son of the late Wesley and Judy Sprouse Brooks. Pete enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and his family. Following his retirement from Dorchester Lumber with 52 years of service he worked for Dollar Tree in Salisbury. He is survived by seven children, Pat White, Faye Evans, Ray Brooks, Donald Brooks, Kathy Simonson, Judy Marshall and Carol Short; he also raised four of his 17 grandchildren; Sam Brooks, Margie McDonald, Crystal Shorter and Jason Mowbray; 36 great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Bradley and Joan Brooks; and two brothers, Wilson Brooks and Ernest Brooks.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Anne Brooks; one sister, Joyce Harris; one brother, Kenneth Brooks; and one grandson, Justin Marine. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Rev. Wooten, David will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cokesbury Cemetery in Georgetown, Delaware.
