HARTFORD, Conn. - William Vilkas, born April 18, 1943, in Hartford, Conn., died Dec. 10, 2010, in Scottsdale, Ariz. William was the oldest child of John and Adele Vilkas of Dover, both deceased. He was predeceased by one sister, Teresa of Dover. He is survived by his sisters, Joan Fry of Dover, Janet Eaton and her husband Robert of Dover, Marian Imler and her husband Gene of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Ann Ogilvie and her husband Richard of Manchester Center, Vermont. Bill is survived by one brother, Robert and his wife Elizabeth of Cleveland, Ohio. Bill is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. William attended the University of Tulane and graduated from the University of Hartford. William was a member of the U.S. Air Force. He then went on to work as a physicist for the U.S. Navy, working in Dahlgren, Virginia for the Naval Space Surveillance System and the Naval Surface Warfare Center. After 30 years of employment there, Bill retired and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Even though Bill was separated by geological distance from his family; he always managed to visit for family reunions, holidays or weddings. His first means of communication was through the computer with e-mails. Bill had a love for the game of baseball. He especially loved going to his local team's games in person. Bill volunteered for local Little League teams. Bill enjoyed working with computers and also volunteered at the local schools, tutoring children. William Vilkas will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Dover, Delaware at the convenience of the family. The family expresses deep gratitude to Hospice of Scottsdale, Arizona for taking care of Bill. Condolences to the family may be sent in care of Joan Fry of Dover. The family encourages donations to local hospice facilities. Bill was a devoted son and brother and will be deeply missed.
