William 'Butch' Martin
William "Butch" Martin died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021 at Salisbury Rehab and Nursing Center. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of William S. "Reds" Martin and Catherine M. Livingston Martin. He was a 1964 graduate of Wicomico Sr. High School and a 1968 graduate of Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va. After college, Butch taught school, first in Virginia and then in Mardela, Md.
Working summers in Ocean City, Butch found his true calling- the hospitality business. He was a natural host who always wanted people to be happy and have a good time. He used his gift for teaching to mentor young employees in a light-hearted way.
Butch and his best friend Susan shared 35 years of love and laughter, music, travel, beloved pets, and many good times with friends. He was an organizer of people for fun things like bus trips to Orioles games, fishing trips, vacations, and the Preakness. He was a member of Salisbury Elks Lodge #817 and a devoted fantasy football player.
Butch was a man of integrity and loyalty, kindness and generosity. He will be missed by many.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Baker; a niece, Catherine Laprad; and a nephew, David F. Baker, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; stepson, Dean Cartwright, of Parkville, Md.; niece, Rosemary Everton (Michael), of Seaford, Del.; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Due to safety concerns, no celebration of his life is planned at this time. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home.
