William J. 'Bill Tuck' McGlaughlin

BISHOPS HEAD - William J. "Bill Tuck" McGlaughlin, 83, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.

He was born in Wingate on Oct. 17, 1923 and was a son of the late Ebben E. and Iva Lewis McGlaughlin.

Mr. McGlaughlin attended school in Wingate. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 where he served in the South Pacific until 1946 when he received his honorable discharge. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

Mr. McGlaughlin was a waterman all of his life. He also worked at Bronzie Parks boat yard where he built several skipjacks, Wilma Lee and Katie Parks. Some of his hobbies were the love of his family and friends, his cats and hunting. He attended St. Thomas United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 91.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alene McGlaughlin of Bishops Head; two sons, Jira McGlaughlin and companion, Janet of Denton and Eddie McGlaughlin and wife, Doreen of Crapo; two grandchildren, Monica Duperron and husband, David of Clarksville, Del., and Jennifer McGlaughlin of Cambridge; two great-grandchildren Jira and David Duperron; a brother, Willis McGlaughlin of Cambridge; a sister, Anna Belle Birch of Cambridge, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Simmons Phillips and a great- grandchild, Phyllis Lynn Duperron.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. George W. Wheatley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Donald Mills, Reginald Todd, Allen Elzey, Edwin Todd, Eddie McGlaughlin and William Tawes Harper Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers: Marvin Parks, Jennings Simmons, and Bill Edwards
