MILFORD - William H. Outten passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford.He was 90. Born to the late Norman and Edna Outten. Mr. Outten served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Mr. Outten was an Nationwide Insurance salesman and agent for over 30 years. He was a strong supporter of Harrington and knew most everybody. When he was not hard at work, he enjoyed traveling the United States. He has visited every state in the US except for Hawaii. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and golfing. He also liked to work in his yard and collect American Fostoria. Mr. Outten was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Harrington, and a lifetime member of the Harrington Fire Company where he was chief emeritus. He also belonged to the Harrington Lions Club, which he was very active in and held many positions, as well as a Melvin Jones recipient. He looked forward to driving the Lions tractor shuttle at the Fair every year. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Collins Outten; brothers, Clifford and Tilghman Outten; and sister, Miriam Outten. He is survived by son, William R. "Bobby" Outten and wife Lynn of Harrington; daughter, Sylvia Smith and husband Robert of Naples, Fla.; sister, Irene Dean of Harrington; three grandchildren, Steve, Kristen, Jeff; seven great grandchildren, Eden, Bella, Natalie, Philip, Robert, Cody and Nathan. Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to: Harrington Fire Company, Harrington Lions Club, or to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
