SALISBURY - William E. Bowers Jr., died at Peninsula Regional Medical Center on Jan. 30, 2015. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William E. and Amelia Harrison Bowers. He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Jeanne in 2011; and his brother, Leroy J. Bowers, in 1966. He is survived by their children, William E. Bowers III of North Carolina, Sally Smith of Salisbury, and Rebecca Ashcraft of Delaware; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Signalman Second Class in the Pacific Fleet-Amphibious Group Seven. He participated in the successful Allied Assault of Kerama Retto serving on the USS Mount McKinley, Group Flagship. He was a member of the Legion of Honor and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in the Boumi Temple of Baltimore. He was a lifetime member and 32nd degree Mason of the Eastern Shore Scottish Rite Club of Salisbury, Orient Maryland; member of Granite Lodge #177 AF and AM, St. Michaels, MD; A&A Scottish Rite, Valley of Salisbury and Baltimore, Orient of Maryland; VFW Post 194 and the American Legion Post 64. A funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 6, at Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury. Interment with military honors followed in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore in Hurlock.
