BEVERLEY, Mass. — If Wesley College’s football team wanted to give up on Saturday, it certainly had its chances.

By halftime against first-time opponent Endicott, the Wolverines were getting shut out and the Gulls had put up 17 points.

But, when the game was over, No. 15 Wesley has reeled off 20 unanswered points to shock Endicott, 20-17, in a non-conference matchup.

Nick Bruhn’s 27-yard field goal with just two seconds remaining — his second field goal in the final five minutes — kept the Wolverines (3-0) undefeated.

The last field goal capped off a 48-yard, 10-play drive that started with two minutes remaining.

“It was tremendous,” quarterback Jon Mullin told WDEL.com about watching the kick go through the uprights. “It was a playoff atmosphere and it was a great win.”

“It took us a while to get going,” said Wesley coach Chip Knapp. “But our team showed the same poise and perseverance of many great Wesley teams from the past. We never panicked and we always felt like we could win the game.

“This game gives us valuable experience as we move forward into our New Jersey Athletic Conference play.”

The Wolverines tied the game at 17-17 on a 23-yard Bruhn field goal with 4:20 remaining.

Trailing 17-0, Wesley got on the board in the third quarter when Ruhann Peele caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Mullin. With 8:41 left in regulation, Mullin then found Mike Credle with a 10-yard scoring pass.

Mullin’s two-point conversion pass to Peele pulled the Wolverines within 17-14.

Mullin, a senior, started the second half and ended up completing 22-of-27 passes for 253 yards with the two TDs and no interceptions in the last two quarters. He also ran for 17 yards on eight carries.

Starter Dave Morracco was 8-of-16 for 79 yards with an interception in the first half.

Peele caught 11 passes for 180 yards and the TD, giving him six touchdown receptions this season. Abe Mansaray ran for a game-high 75 yards on 12 carries with E.J. Lee adding 36 yards on eight carries.

Defensive end Shymere Vessels (Woodbridge) had a team-high 12 tackles, including four tackles for losses of 12 yards. Linebacker Dante Daniel added 10 tackles with safety Coray Williams adding an interception.

Wesley out-gained Endicott, 472 yards to 259, and held a 23-15 edge in first downs.

The Wolverines have an open date next weekend before hosting Rowan on Oct. 5 in their home opener.
