YORK, Pa. — The Wesley College men’s basketball team didn’t go down without a fight on Tuesday night.

But third-seeded York was a little too much, pulling away to a 102-91 victory over the No. 6 Wolverines in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

Wesley finishes the season with a record of 10-16 while the Spartans (17-9) play at second-seeded Salisbury on Thursday in the CAC semifinals.

The Wolverines led by as many as eight points in the first half before opening up a 50-45 advantage after starting the second half on a 7-0 run.

In a contest that featured seven lead changes and nine ties, Wesley later used a 14-6 run to close back within 76-74 with 6:58 still remaining.

But York took over from there, eventually netting 26 of the game’s final 43 points to earn its ticket to the tournament’s second round.

Junior Paul Clemons finished with a game-high 29 points for the Wolverines, hitting 12-of-18 shots from the floor, while also contributing a team-high nine points. Evan Anderson (19 points), J.W. Lawson (13) and Brian Cameron (10) also finished in double figures in the high-scoring contest.

Lawson, a junior, collected the 1,000th point of his career on a basket with 13 seconds remaining.

The Spartans had six players score in double figures, led by Blayde Reich with 28 points. York’s bench outscored Wesley’s, 30-11.

The Spartans, who beat the Wolverines for the second time in three meetings this season, went 14-of-31 from the three-point line.

Wesley was playing in the CAC Tournament for the 10th straight season. The Wolverines closed the year with five losses in their last seven games.
