Wesley College led but gave up two unanswered goals to fall 2-1 at Cabrini in the semifinals of the AEC men’s soccer tournament on Tuesday night.
Justin John-Langba scored in the game’s 57th minute to give the fourth-seeded Wolverines a 1-0 lead. But top-seeded Cabrini scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes to advance to the finals.
Women’s basketball
UMES 74, Wesley 29: The Wolverines opened their season with a loss on the road to a Division I opponent.
Angelique Gathers led Wesley with eight points. SherVohnia Tolson finished perfect from the floor and scored six points.
Women’s volleyball
Cabrini 3, Wesley 1: The Wolverines fell in the AEC tournament in four sets 25-12, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17.
Elisa Hackendorn paced Wesley with 10 kills while Mackenzie Bender and Regan Healey each recorded seven kills. Lindsay Burg netted 26 assists.
Track and field
Cape Henlopen coach honored: Matt Lindell, the Cape Henlopen High cross country coach, was awarded the Henlopen Conference Coach of the Year award.
Lindell coached the Vikings to the boys’ Henlopen Conference cross country title. It was the first title for Cape Henlopen since 2004.
College field hockey
UD’s Strien honored for 4th time: Delaware’s Femke Strien was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Strien is the only player to earn the honor more than once this season.
The junior forward led the Blue Hens to a 2-0 weekend with wins over William & Mary and James Madison. She collected two assists and a goal against the Tribe before posting the game’s lone goal versus the Dukes.
Strien finished the regular season with at least one goal in four straight games and is tied for ninth in Delaware single-season history with 16 goals. She currently ranks seventh nationally with 0.94 goals per game.
The four-time CAA regular-season champion Blue Hens welcome William & Mary, Northeastern and James Madison to Rullo Stadium this weekend for the CAA Field Hockey Championship. Top-seeded Delaware will face the fourth-seeded Dukes at 1 p.m. Friday while the Tribe and Huskies will match up at 4 p.m. Sunday’s championship game will be played at 1 p.m.
