Culver, 90 DOVER - Wesley C. "Bud" Culver passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. He was 90. Mr. Culver was born October 16, 1923 in Glen Falls, New York to the late George H. and Mary Yemans Culver. He enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after graduating high school in 1942, he saw action in Atlantic and the Mediterranean on a destroyer and in the Pacific on the PC463 at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. At the end of the hostilities his ship went to Japan with the occupational forces. After his discharge he spent some time in the automotive business before joining McGraw-Hill Publishers, retiring in 1983. Mr. Culver then turned his woodworking hobby into a business re-retiring at age 85. In addition to woodworking he enjoyed shooting sporting clays, hunting, fishing, and golf. Mr. Culver volunteered at the Pharmacy at Kent General Hospital He was a member of Mason Union Lodge #7 AF & AM, Valley of Lower Delaware Scottish Rites, The Caesar Rodney Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, General Society of the War of 1812, Life member of the VFW Post #3238, Patrol Craft Sailors Association, and the National Association of Destroyer Veterans. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, John S. Culver; brother, Maj. George H. Culver; sisters, Joan Moore and Marjorie Larose, and his former wife, Evelyn Smith Culver. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Ann Culver; sons, James of Cambridge, Md., Joseph and Daniel both of Lake George, N.Y., Mark of Johnsonville, N.Y., Wesley S. of Delmar, N.Y.; daughter, Nancy of Carthage, N.C.; step children, Edward Castellon of Memphis, Tenn., Christopher Castellon of Rochester, N.Y., Elaine Nolan of Camden, Del. and Ronald Castellon of Atlanta, Ga.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, (Rt.10), Dover . Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Disabled American Veterans, 183 South St., Camden, DE 19934 or the Delaware AG Museum, 866 N.
