DOVER - Omar Anderson, 23, of Wilmington, was arrested on weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
At approximately 1:19 a.m., Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said, officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation near the intersection of West Division Street and South New Street. Officers made contact with Mr. Anderson and detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, police said.
A search of the vehicle yielded a 9mm Taurus handgun, which had been concealed inside of the glove compartment, and approximately four grams of marijuana, police said.
Mr. Anderson was taken into custody without incident.
Mr. Anderson was charged with possession of a firearm by person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, and operating a vehicle with improper window tint. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,102 secured bail.
