Warren Smith

Mr. Warren Smith of Dover, DE was born November 23, 1928 in Lennox, California to the late Fred A. Smith and Nina Heck Smith.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 to 1966 during the Korea and Vietnam Wars and retired after 20 years of service. After his military career he worked as a tool, die and mold maker. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown where he and his wife Barbara had lived for several years before moving to Dover in 2004. Mr. Smith was a member of Marine Corps League and the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post #2 in Dover. He was also a member of Unanimity Masonic Lodge #7 of Edenton, NC and Scottish Rite of New Bern, NC. He enjoyed woodcarving, reading and being with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Royce Smith and Betty Smith MacIsaac, son Michael Smith and granddaughter Lauren Messinger.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Wheatley Smith of Dover; children, Art Smith and his wife Marsha of McGregor, MN and Beth Messinger and her husband Michael of Spring Branch, TX; grandchildren, Drew, Corey and Brad Smith, Carrie Guy, Stephanie Bariatti and Alexandra Mainord.
Memorial services will be held 11AM, Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 102 E Laurel St., Georgetown, DE 19947 or Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901.
