EASTON - Walter Thomas "Tom" Ralph, Jr. died October 2, 2014 at home in Easton in his sleep. Born July 17, 1937 and raised in Vienna, he was married for 54 years to Phyllis Corkran Ralph, was the father of Eric Jason Ralph and Regan Elisabeth Ralph, and proud grandfather of Walter Charles Ralph, Philip George Ralph, and Samuel Corkran Hanoura. A member of the first graduating class of North Dorchester High School and a graduate of the University of Maryland, Tom enjoyed a long career in agribusiness working in Kansas City, Missouri where he served as a senior executive of Bartlett & Company - Grain, was a member and Vice President of the Kansas City Board of Trade and enjoyed mentoring young professionals entering the field. After relocating to his much loved Eastern Shore, he was actively involved in the Chicone Ruritans, Christ Church in Cambridge, the Institute For Adult Learning at Chesapeake College, the Dorchester County Historical Society and the Tidewater Farm Club. He was a lifelong sports fan, especially of the Maryland Terrapins. Throughout his life he was a devoted husband, and engaged and supportive father; coaching his children's sports teams, showing up whenever needed, and offering a pun or joke whether needed or not. His warmth and good humor brought great joy to those around him and he was loved by all who knew him. A viewing was held 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Funeral services were 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cambridge where Pastor Bob White officiated. Interment was private. A reception was 2:30 p.m., at the Cambridge Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Chicone Ruritan Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 42, Vienna MD 21869.
