DOVER - Walter E. Richardson, 93, of Dover, passed away peacefully in Cape May, N.J., on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010. Born in Philadelphia, Walt was the son of the late Warren and Marie Richardson. He was a resident of Haddonfield, N.J., for many years before moving to Dover in 1988. He spent his formative years in West Cape May, N.J., and graduated from Cape May High School in 1935. Walt furthered his education at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania where he received a degree in Engineering and he later received a degree in Education from Glassboro State Teacher's College (Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J.). The culmination of his education was the achievement of his Doctorate Degree in Physics. Walt honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He worked for many years, and retired from, the Pennsylvania-Reading Railroad and later retired from his second career working as a teacher/professor in the Camden and Gloucester County areas in New Jersey. He was a member of the Lodge Council Chapter Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Southern New Jersey; the National Education Association and the Cape May County Retired Teachers Association. Walt was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Norma F. Richardson and was also predeceased by his two brothers. Walt will be sadly missed by his family, and more specifically, his niece who loved him dearly, Ruth (and John) Leo of Cape May, N.J.; and his companion, Virginia Morrow of Cape May, N.J. Graveside services and Masonic Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, in the Cold Spring Cemetery, Lower Township, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Walt's memory to the Cape Island Masonic Lodge #30 F&AM, P.O. Box 2101, Cape May, NJ 08204.
