Virgie Elizabeth Johnson

Virgie Elizabeth Johnson, 93 MARION STATION - Virgie Elizabeth Johnson, 93, of Marion Station, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield. Born in Crisfield on Nov. 21, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Agnes Matthews Howard. Her husband, Benjamin Franklin Johnson preceded her in death. She was a caregiver at the Tawes Nursing Home working 10 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Evangelical Wesleyan Church in Crisfield where she taught an adult Sunday School Class and was President of the Women's Missionary Society for many years. She loved gardening, flowers, and she was a great cook who enjoyed cooking for others. Devoted to her family, she is survived by five children, Agnes Lewis, Thelma Dunn, and Frank Johnson, all of Crisfield, David Johnson of Delmar and Philip Johnson of Salisbury; four siblings, Mildred Thomas of Baltimore, Viola Yoder of Westover, Dorothy Walls of Milford, and Mary Derr of South Carolina; a special neighbor, Pat Palmer of Marion; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Albert Johnson and Molly Johnson; and six siblings, James Howard, Alberta Stigall, Ida Cox, Pearl Taylor, Harry Howard and Willie Howard. Funeral services were held Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends called one hour prior. The Rev. Terry Riggin officiated. Interment followed in Quinton Cemetery in Pocomoke City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Tawes Nursing Home Activities Fund, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817; or Evangelical Wesleyan Church, c/o Rev. Terry Riggin, 1121B S.
