PRESTON - Violet Marie Thomas, 84, passed away on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Caroline Nursing Home in Denton.

She was born on June 19, 1923, in Laurel Fork, Va., the daughter of the late James Albert Alderman and Shrilda Keene Alderman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Olin Thomas Sr., on Nov. 5, 2000; by a sister, Mae Sutphin; and two brothers, Mack and Melvin Alderman.

She graduated from Preston High School with the class of 1941. She and her late husband had a dairy farm, along with growing vegetables and raising poultry. She also had worked at Fearins Insurance Agency in Preston and Leah"s Bridal Shop in Easton.

She was a member of Bethlehem Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by two sons, Wilbert Olin Thomas Jr. and his wife, Neva, of Manassas, Va., and William Robert Thomas Sr. and his wife, Linda of Preston; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Rev. Glenn A. Staehli Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Serving as pallbearers will be William R. Thomas Jr., John North, Jeff Cronshaw, Wilbert Olin Thomas III, Leslie Robert Thomas, Donald Andrew Thomas, and serving as honorary pallbearers will be Fred Stafford Jr., and Robert Taylor.
