Vincent was born on December 8, 1922 in Camden, N.J. and graduated from Merchantville High School in 1940. It was then that he met his wife of 70 years Ruth L. Sears. After being employed by Radio Condenser & Campbell Soup he took a position as office boy with Arrow Safety Device Co. When the company expanded to Georgetown, in 1953 Vincent was named manager and after 47 years of employment he retired in 1993 as Chairmen of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Vincent loved his dogs and his vehicles. He loved German Shepherds in particular, and on any weekend he could be found washing and waxing one of his many Cadillac's or Lincoln's. He was a loving father and an active member of St. Michael the Archangel all of his active life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent A. and Margaret (Hogan) Sears; and a daughter, Susan M. Sears (Ricker), whom he deeply missed. Vincent is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth L. Sears (Swenson); daughters, Kathy R. Robbins of Harbeson, Linda C. Tonge and husband Gary; a son, Vincent J. Sears Jr., of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Douglas and Victoria Tonge (Smith), Erin C. Ricker, Melissa S. Ricker (Glaser), Kyle R. Ricker and Delaney Brooke Sears; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Sydney, and Chloe Tonge and Maverick Emerson Glaser. A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will be private at a later time in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Vincent's name to: St. Michael the Archangel 202 Edward St., Georgetown, DE 19947 or: Delaware Hospice Center 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
