LINKWOOD - Velma Lee Whaples Willey, 79, of Linkwood, died Friday night, Aug. 3, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Cambridge on Sept. 15, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Charles W. Whaples and Emma Esther Abbott Whaples.
On April 5, 1946, she married Levin Henry Willey. He died on Sept. 21, 1999. Mrs. Willey was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church.
For most of her working life, she was an analyzer technician for Airpax Corp. for several years before retiring.
Mrs. Willey was very proud of her country and her husband"s faithful service. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 7460, Dorchester Unit No. 91 American Legion Auxiliary, and Post 88 The 29th Division Auxiliary.
Her hobbies included crocheting and playing bingo.
Surviving are two children, Debbie Sturgis and her husband Brian, Chuck Willey and his wife Nancy, all of Linkwood; four grandchildren, Allison Gilliard and her husband Jason, Erin Willey, Charles H. "C.J." Willey, Jr., Christine Willey; a great-granddaughter, Anna Lynn Gilliard and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were; two daughters; Cindy Ellen Willey, Marjorie Ann Willey ; a brother, Leroy Whaples and his wife E. Juanita Whaples and son-in-law David M. Hurley, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., at 1 p.m. on Tuesday where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Mrs. Willey"s cousin, The Rev.
