CHESTER, Pa. - Valera E. Thorpe, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Last employed by PMA Insurance Companies of Blue Bell, Pa. for past several years. A 1979 graduate of Chichester High School and Senior Class Vice President; 1984 graduate of Towson State University. Survived by two nephews whom she raised, Spencer Thorpe and Jamaal Cooper; two goddaughters, Shovalyah Walker, Taia West. Mother, Rachel Thorpe; eight brothers, Delbert (Phyllis), Vernell, Bruce, James (Karlieta), Darrell, Thomas (Phancia), Kenneth, Sr.; three sisters, Rev. Frances Benson, Cecelia White, Cheryl Thorpe; one aunt, Thedress Thorpe. An abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Deceased family members: father, William R. Thorpe; three sisters, Roberta (3/7/2014), Karen, Helena; one brother-in-law, Carl Benson; one sister-in-law, Rotha Davis Thorpe. Visitors welcome at family homestead in Twin Oaks, Pa.; between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. is preferred. Funeral Services will be Friday, April 4, 2014 at St. Luke CC Church, 320 Tilghman St., Chester, PA 19013. Viewing 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Funeral at 11 a.m. Burial at Lawncroft Cemetery, Linwood, Pa.
