DOVER - Two males, ages 12 and 14, were charged with firearms offenses after a search warrant execution at a home Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The youths were determined to have handled a loaded .38 caliber handgun that was found inside a residence in the unit block of South Queen Street, according to Dover police spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid.

The search warrant came after a 28-year-old Marydel male was initially seen leaving the residence and entering a vehicle. The man was known to have an active capias, police said, and the vehicle was stopped.

As officers approached the vehicle, police said, they detected an odor of marijuana. The vehicle was searched and all three men inside were in possession of marijuana, Cpl. Schmid said.

The men were taken into custody without incident and a search warrant was obtained for the South Queen Street home. Several persons were taken into custody inside the residence, including the two youths.

The men inside the vehicle were each charged with marijuana possession.

The youths were charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited juvenile, and possession of ammunition by a prohibited juvenile. The older male was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, and the younger was committed to Stevenson Juvenile Detention Facility on $30,000 secured bail.
