Two juveniles arrested at Cape Henlopen High football game

LEWES — A 16-year-old male of Lewes and a 17-year-old male of Rehoboth Beach were arrested for resisting arrest and related charges following an incident at a high school football game Friday night, Delaware State Police spokesperson Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.

According to authorities, at approximately 7:45 p.m., troopers working security at the host Cape Henlopen High versus Sussex Central football game at 34384 Vikings Way responded to a fight. Upon encountering persons fighting, a 16-year-old charged at troopers and a physical altercation ensued, Cpl. Hatchell said.

During the altercation, one trooper was struck in the face by a second suspect, police said. Ultimately, both suspects were taken into custody.

The 16-year-old continued to resist arrest while being escorted to the patrol vehicle, police said. Additionally, troopers detected an odor of alcoholic beverages and signs of impairment on the suspect, police said.

The 17-year-old also resisted arrest but was taken into custody. Troopers located approximately 17.46 grams of marijuana in his possession, police said.

Charges against the 16-year-old included resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and underage consumption of alcohol He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released to a guardian.

The 17-year-old was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, hindering prosecution, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, and possession of marijuana. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released to a guardian.
