DOVER — Two people were shot early Saturday, as a string of gunfire incidents continued within the capital city.

Dover police said a shooting in the area of South Bradford and West Loockerman streets occurred at approximately 1:21 a.m. and left a woman with a gunshot wound to the foot and a man injured in the leg, spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

Police have reported 20 gunfire-involved events in Dover since June 3, leaving 19 people shot, including two who died.

According to Sgt. Hoffman, officers were in the vicinity Saturday morning, monitoring “bar closings due to recent incidents involving large crowds in the area.”

The officers heard a gunshot and saw a crowd in the parking lot behind Irish Mike’s Old Town Pub. Officers found the injured female, who was transported by emergency medical services to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover.

The wounded man arrived to the same hospital via private vehicle. He underwent surgery and remained hospitalized Monday, police said.

As the incident unfolded, “a crowd of approximately 30-40 people continued disorderly behavior, including yelling and fighting, while law enforcement was attempting to gain control of the scene and disperse the crowd and while EMS was attempting to treat and transport the female victim,” Sgt. Hoffman said.

He added that the unruly crowd “was an ongoing issue, even when detectives arrived well after the incident occurred.” No arrests were made, he said.

On Monday, Sgt. Hoffman said no information on a suspect or suspects was available “at this time.”

The investigation continues, and police asked anyone with information to call 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or by visiting here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
