FELTON — Two people died in a head-on crash Sunday on Irish Hill Road, west of Blaine Drive, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.
Police said an 18-year-old Felton man was driving east in a Toyota Corolla at approximately 6:02 p.m., when he attempted to pass a truck and traveled directly into the path of a westbound Hyundai Accent, driven by a 36-year-old female from Magnolia. The drivers attempted to avoid striking each other by exiting off the south edge of the road, but the vehicles ultimately hit head-on as a result, Cpl. Hatchell said.
After impact, both vehicles were forced southwest and came to rest in a field.
The Hyundai’s driver, who police said wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin. There were two passengers in the Hyundai, who were transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, Dover, and treated for their injuries.

Irish Hill Road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours, while the incident was cleared.
