DOVER — A man and a woman are dead after a home invasion in Rodney Village early Saturday morning, according to the Delaware State Police.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is investigating, according to a Saturday morning release by spokesperson Sgt. Richard Bratz.

Troopers were called to the 1400 block of John Clark Road in Rodney Village at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of a home invasion with two suspects. A female reported her 52-year-old father had been shot by one of the suspects during a struggle.

The father’s adult son, also in the residence, heard the struggle. According to police, the father and son were shot during the struggle. Police said the suspects fled and the son chased them.

During the foot chase, shots were fired and a female was shot, police said. Police said the female’s involvement is not known at this point in the investigation.

She was pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.

The 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The son was treated and released from the local hospital.

Police describe the first suspect as a black male about 6 feet tall with a slim build. He was wearing dark clothing with his face partially covered. Police said he was armed with unknown type of handgun.

The second suspect is a slim white male, about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing dark clothing with his face partially covered. He also was armed with unknown type of handgun, police said.

Motive is not known, police said. No other occupants inside the residence were injured.

Police, who said the investigation is in its early stages, do not believe the incident was a random act.
