Two arrests made after thefts in Sussex

REHOBOTH BEACH  - Christian O’Leary, 30, of Lewes, and Jacob Steele, 34, of Dover, were arrested following an investigation into numerous thefts in Sussex County, Delaware State Police said.

Spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said that throughout March and April, DSP fielded numerous reports of thefts of watercraft equipment and accessories that were occurring in boat yards in Lewes, Millsboro and Milford.

Detectives from the Troop 4 Property Crimes Unit determined that Mr. O’Leary and Mr. Steele were suspects, according to authorities.

At approximately 10:33 p.m. Friday, Mr. O’Leary and Mr. Steele were located operating a vehicle on southbound Coastal Highway at Miller Road, DSP said. Troopers initiated a traffic stop and the men were taken into custody without incident.

Both men were charged with attempted theft over $1,500 and victim is 62 years of age or older, theft over $1,500 (four counts), criminal mischief (three counts), second-degree criminal trespass (three counts), and third-degree criminal trespass (three counts).

Mr. O’Leary and Mr. Steele were both arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3. Mr. O’Leary was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $4,875 secured bond, and Steele was committed to SCI on $9,500 secured bond.
