MIDDLETOWN — Two individuals were arrested on property and drug charges following a motor vehicle collision Monday.

According to Delaware State Police, at approximately 3:50 p.m., troopers responded to Del. 1 north, in the area of Drawyers Creek, regarding a vehicular collision. Prior to troopers’ arrival, the driver and passenger of a silver Hyundai Elantra that had been involved in the incident fled the scene on foot, spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

Driver Danieve Harper, 39, of Middletown, and passenger Tenah Parris, 30, of Penns Grove, New Jersey, were located a short distance away on U.S. 13 and taken into custody.

A search of Mr. Harper revealed that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia, and Ms. Parris was found with approximately 2.47 grams of methamphetamine, 0.04 grams of cocaine, 0.06 grams of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

Troopers also discovered that the Elantra had been reported stolen by Troop 9 in October 2021.

Mr. Harper was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,500, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic violations.

Ms. Parris was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both driver and passenger were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on their own recognizance.
