SEAFORD — A Seaford man was arrested on felony gun charges following a Sunday traffic stop, Delaware State Police said.
According to Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, Shyheim Drayton-Upshur, 19, was a front passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on Concord Road at approximately 1:05 a.m. The trooper smelled marijuana coming from inside the car, and all occupants were asked to exit it, so a search could be conducted.
Troopers found a loaded handgun concealed under the front seat, Cpl. DeMalto said, and Drayton-Upshur was taken into custody without incident.
A computer check showed that the suspect is a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition.
He was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $90,000 cash bond.
