CAMDEN — Kevin Walker, 48, of Dover, was arrested on drug-dealing and firearm charges following a traffic stop Wednesday, authorities said.
Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said that, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a black 2020 Chevrolet Camaro traveling south on South DuPont Highway, south of Dover.
The trooper recognized the driver as Mr. Walker, and a computer check showed that he had a suspended driver’s license, Cpl. DeMalto said. Officers stopped him on East Street, south of East Camden Wyoming Avenue, and asked him to exit the car.
A drug-certified K-9 then examined the Camaro’s exterior and alerted to the presence of the odor of narcotics, police said. A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of 42.9 grams of crack, 81.6 grams of meth, 655 bags containing 4.59 grams of suspected heroin, 41.08 grams of marijuana, 1.34 grams of cocaine, 12 Suboxone strips and 35 prescription pills of various types. All amounts are approximate.
A concealed and loaded 9 mm handgun and drug paraphernalia were also found, Cpl. DeMalto added.
Mr. Walker was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in Tier 2 and 3 quantities, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (seven counts), possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed firearm and driving while suspended or revoked.
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $243,500 cash bond.
