TOWNSEND — Axl Vangorder, 18, of Townsend, was arrested for first-degree assault and related charges following a shooting Saturday, authorities said.
According on Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, troopers responded to the 600 block of Cannery Lane at approximately 7:35 p.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they learned that Mr. Vangorder had engaged in a verbal argument with a 28-year-old male acquaintance at the residence.
During the argument, police said, Mr. Vangorder shot the male once in the upper torso. The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Troopers also recovered a 9 mm handgun at the home.
Mr. Vangorder was also charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, Wilmington, on a $60,000 cash bond.
