Thurber Forbes

MAGNOLIA - Thurber "Jerry" Forbes, Jr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was surrounded by and comforted by his loving family in his final days. Jerry was born on Nov. 14, 1926 in Dover, Del., son of the late Delsie (Jones) and Thurber Forbes, Sr. Jerry was a man of few words, but shared a wealth of knowledge. He put family above himself for his entire life and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. He had worked for the U.S. Postal Service with 30+ years of service ultimately achieving the position of Postmaster for the Frederica office. Prior to his career, he served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Jerry had many hobbies and always kept himself busy and on the go. He enjoyed gardening, bee keeping, traveling to Florida, home projects, and watching baseball. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 63 years Evelyn S. Forbes in July 2012. Jerry is survived by his children Glenn Forbes and his wife Beth of Rehoboth Beach, Mike Forbes of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Dennis Forbes and his wife Carolyn of Magnolia, Cheryl Howlett of Dover, Chris Forbes and his wife Mac of Myrtle Beach, S.C., a sister Shirley Johnson of Dover, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
