Three face felony charges after Camden traffic stop

CAMDEN — The Dover Police Department and the U.S. Marshals’ First State Fugitive Task Force arrested three individuals on felony charges Monday, authorities said.

Officers were conducting surveillance on a vehicle that was occupied by Joshua Smith, 30, of Camden, who was wanted by the Delaware State Police. According to Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman, officers stopped the vehicle at the Camden Wawa at approximately 4:20 p.m. The car was occupied by two children and four adults.

During a search, a handgun was located with a 50-round drum magazine and an obliterated serial number, Sgt. Hoffman said.

Police said an occupant of the vehicle, Jasmin Smith, 24, of Dover, was in possession of 100 doses of MDMA and 3.5 grams of marijuana. Also, authorities said, occupant Daeonna Chauka, 24, had an active warrant and gave a false name.

Ms. Smith was charged with possession with intent to deliver MDMA, possession of MDMA, possession of marijuana, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ms. Chauka was charged with possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, criminal impersonation, second-degree conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mr. Smith was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, illegal gang participation and second-degree conspiracy.

Bond information was not available Tuesday.
