Posted

Delaware State Police on Friday arrested three Kent County residents in connection with multiple thefts of porch packages and lawn ornaments.

Over the past several months, spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said, troopers have been investigating numerous thefts of packages from porches and lawn ornaments/figurines from front yards in the Houston, Felton, Harrington, and Magnolia areas.

On Feb. 9, troopers requested the public’s assistance in identifying a possible suspect through a social media post. Thanks to the community’s help, three suspects were identified and arrested — Russell A. Griffin, 45, of Magnolia, Lawrence Evans, 43, of Magnolia, and Dawn Shockley, 37, of Magnolia. On Friday, troopers responded to a home on Riley Drive and arrested Ms. Shockley and Mr. Evans. Additionally, troopers took Mr. Griffin into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Mr. Evans, Mr. Griffin, and Ms. Shockley were all charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief, theft under $1,500, third-degree conspiracy, second-degree conspiracy, theft over $1,500 victim is 62 years or older, and second-degree burglary. Mr. Griffin was also charged with resisting arrest.

All defendants were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on their own recognizance.

Numerous suspected stolen lawn ornaments and figurines were located and seized from inside and outside of the suspects’ residence. Anyone who reported a theft of a lawn ornament/figurine and is interested in having it returned, is asked to contact Det. Christine Bowie with the Troop 3 Property Crimes Unit by calling 302-698-8503 or emailing Christine.Bowie@delaware.gov to identify your property. Also, contact Ms. Bowie if you had a lawn ornament/figurine or package stolen and did not report the theft to police.
