MILTON - Thomas W. Bennett Sr., of Milton, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia. He was 61. Mr. Bennett was born in Milford, the son of Gladys A. Bennett and the late Norman Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a graduate of Milford High School. He was a farmer all of his life working the family farm in Milford. He was a member of Crossroad Community Church, Georgetown. Tom enjoyed going to breakfast with his friends and especially liked going to the Bennett Retreat at Mallard Landing. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, watching NASCAR and taking quiet drives throughout the Sussex County countryside, checking out all of the farmland. He loved going out to dinner up until he became ill. A special passion of Tom's was horse racing. He loved going to the races at Harrington and Dover, as well as watching the races on both the internet and television. He enjoyed going to the Clark Stables on Coastal Highway to watch horses train and in September, he began helping out with jogging the horses around the track. His one dream was to someday own his own race horse. His special love, though, was his family. He especially loved doting over and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his father, Tom was preceded in death by his grandson, Isaiah Bennett in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Diana; a son, Thomas W. Bennett Jr. and his wife Christina of Gainesville, Ga.; his mother, Gladys A. Bennett of Milford; a stepson, Michael Millman of Milford; stepdaughter, Michelle Biggs and her husband Philip of Greenwood; and five grandchildren, Gabriel Bennett, Bethany Bennett, Luke Biggs, Megan Biggs, and Brady Biggs. Friends called from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Services will be 11 a.m. on today, Jan. 29, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Slaughter Neck Cemetery, Argos Corner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
