This weekend's local football predictions

As the Henlopen Conference football season enters its second week, here’s our predictions for the downstate and local college games:

Andy Walter, Delaware State News 11-3

High School

Today’s games

Games start at 7 p.m. unless noted.

First State Military (1-0) vs. Seaford (0-1), at Kent County Turf Field, 4 p.m.

After earning the program’s first varsity victory, FSMA would love to double that total.    

AW: Seaford, 19-12; TM: Seaford, 20-7; BH: Seaford, 21-7; GF: Seaford, 21-20; MP: Seaford, 22-12.

Woodbridge (1-0) at Dover (1-0)

Dover has something to prove to the Raiders after losing to them two years in a row.       

AW: Dover, 35-33; TM: Wood, 42-35; BH: Wood, 33-10; GF: Wood, 38-21; MP: Dover, 35-20.

Smyrna (0-1) at Franklin, Md. (1-1)

Smyrna would like to avoid having Franklin drop it to 0-2 for the second straight season.

AW: Franklin, 35-30; TM: Franklin, 28-22; BH: Smyrna, 27-13; GF: Franklin, 28-22                ; MP: Franklin, 28-24.

Queen Anne’s, Md. (1-1) at Sussex Central (0-1)

Sussex Central could use a good bounce-back effort after a tough opening-game loss.

AW: Central, 42-20; TM: Central, 42-14; BH: Central, 27-21; GF: QA, 24-20; MP: Central, 28-16.

Cape Henlopen (0-1) vs. Suitland, Md. (2-0) at Fairmont Heights, Md. HS

The Vikings face another tough road trip as they try to pick up their first victory of ‘18.     

AW: Suitland, 31-13; TM: Suitland, 28-14; BH: Suitland, 24-10; GF: Suitland, 28-17; MP: Suitland, 42-8.

Tatnall (0-1) at Lake Forest (0-1)

After coming up just two points shy last week, the Spartans look to break through this week.        

AW: Lake, 37-6; TM: Lake, 28-20; BH: Lake, 21-14; GF: Lake, 27-20; MP: Lake, 20-14.

Sussex Tech (1-0) vs. Salesianum (1-0), at Baynard Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Tech had a good start by winning its opener last week but facing the Sals is a big step up in class.

AW: Sals, 41-14; TM: Sals, 35-17; BH: Tech, 21-20; GF: Sals, 22-18; MP: Sals, 35-17.

Indian River (1-0) vs. Polytech (0-1) at Kent Co. Turf Field, 7:30 p.m.

In just its second game of the year, IR can surpass its win total for 2017 with a victory.     

AW: IR, 27-14; TM: Poly, 21-20; BH: Poly, 20-13; GF: IR, 21-13; MP: Poly, 27-20.

St. Mary’s, MD. (0-2) vs. Delmar (1-0) at Salisbury University, 7:30 p.m.

Delmar has won 12 games in a row but the last team to beat the Wildcats was St. Mary’s.             

AW: Delmar, 28-7; TM: Delmar, 33-24; BH: Delmar, 34-14; GF: Delmar, 31-24; MP: Delmar, 42-0.

Saturday

Caesar Rodney (1-0) at St. Georges (0-1), noon

The Riders shouldn’t overlook a St. Georges team it beat by only a point by last season.   

AW: CR, 27-6; TM: CR, 21-6; BH: CR, 28-21; GF: SG, 21-18; MP: CR, 21-13.

St. Elizabeth (1-0) vs. Laurel (1-0), at Milford, noon

After putting up 50 points last week, Laurel has a shot at its first 2-0 start since 2009.       

AW: Laurel, 20-14; TM: St. Eliz, 28-21; BH: St. Eliz, 17-10; GF: Laurel, 24-20; MP: Laurel, 28-14.

Milford (0-1) vs. Delaware Military (1-0), at Baynard Stadium, 7 p.m.

DMA will no doubt be anxious to avenge last year’s one-point loss to the Buccaneers.

AW: DMA, 24-13; TM: DMA, 31-21; BH: Milford, 24-21; GF: DMA, 32-16; MP: Milford, 16-12.

College

Today

Coll. of New Jersey (0-2) at Wesley (1-0), 7 p.m.

Wesley has a chance to put up points against a TCNJ team that has already allowed 82.

AW: Wesley, 45-14; TM: Wesley, 41-20; BH: Wesley, 27-14; GF: Wesley, 47-20; MP: Wesley, 42-10.

Saturday

Cornell (0-0) at Delaware (1-1), 3:30 pm.

Hens don’t want to get caught looking ahead to showdown with No. 1 N. Dakota State.  

AW: UD, 35-7; TM: UD, 31-7; BH: UD, 28-14; GF: UD, 27-13; MP: UD, 35-3.

Delaware State (0-2) at Western Michigan (0-2), 7 p.m.

The Hornets face their third straight road trip to take on an WMU squad hungry for a win.

AW: WM, 42-21; TM: WM, 49-17; BH: WM, 30-17; GF: WM, 38-13; MP: WM, 49-7.
