SMYRNA — Gunpoint robberies on consecutive nights last week quickly brought the arrests of several teenagers on felony charges, Smyrna Police said Monday.

A 15-year-old Smyrna youth was apprehended approximately three hours after an alleged armed robbery on Dec. 29 in the area of North Main Street and Providence Drive, police spokesman Cpl. Brian Donner said.

On Dec. 30, four arrests were made in the area of South Carter Road and Villanova Drive after a 2:50 p.m. response to a reported armed robbery.

In the first case, a female alleged she was robbed by several gun-wielding suspects at approximately 7:26 p.m.; a cellphone and money were taken. The female was taken to the Smyrna Police station and officers began tracking the stolen cellphone, authorities said.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., officers learned the cellphone was active in the Gateway North shopping center at 200 Stadium St. Five juveniles were contacted and a phone rang in a 15-year-old male’s pocket when it was called by Smyrna Police dispatch, police said.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with first-degree robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, second-degree conspiracy, offensive touching and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The suspect was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover, given a $109,000 unsecured bond and released to the custody of his mother, police said.

In the second alleged incident, a male told police he had been robbed at gunpoint by four people who took personal belongings.

Officers located four people fitting suspect descriptions and one was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, Smyrna police said.

The other three suspects were apprehended without incident.

A positive identification was made by the person who allegedly was robbed and stolen property was found, police said.

Smyrna police said two suspects were 15 years old, the other two were a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, all from Smyrna.

Charges included first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, second-degree conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

After presentment at Justice of the Peace Court 7, the teens were held at Stevenson House Detention Center in Dover. Three secured bonds were set at $12,500 and a fourth at $22,500.

Citing the juvenile age of the suspects, Smyrna Police did not release names or booking photographs.
