DOVER — Educators are invited to enjoy a free field trip to the Biggs Museum of American Art without their students on Friday, Sept. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.
At the Biggs Museum’s annual Teachers’ Night, the DAEA Museum Educator of the Year Kristen Matulewicz, will host an evening of fun, food and art, where educators can learn how to take advantage of all of the free resources that the Biggs can provide to help enrich the school year. During this event, teachers and those working in the education field are invited to sample virtual field trips, participate in art-making workshops and experience the ways that the museum can help to enhance their classrooms.
“The museum’s goal is to serve students through supporting teachers,” said Matulewicz, the curator of community and academic programs. “We provide multiple, easy ways to engage with us whether in-person or online, in order to bring a little color, life and joy back to the classroom. On something like a virtual field trip, we’re able to give teachers a much needed moment to catch their breath, while giving students a reason to smile.”
All attendees are welcome and encouraged to explore the Biggs Museum’s collection as well as the current special exhibitions, Winslow Homer: From Poetry to Fiction and Inventing Illustration.
This event is offered free of charge.
Student and teacher programming, which is provided at no cost to schools, educators and students, is made possible through the generous support of M&T Bank, the Delaware Division of the Arts, Kent County Fund for the Arts and the Susan Kathleen Black Foundation.
The museum is located in historic downtown Dover at 406 Federal St., Dover. Registration and masks are required to attend this event. Register online or by calling 674-2111. For questions about Teachers’ Night, email programs@biggsmuseum.org.
