Sylvio A. Stortini

Sylvio A. Stortini DOVER - Sylvio A. Stortini, 78, of Dover, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Kent General Hospital. Sylvio was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 28, 1931, son of the late Angelo and Marguerite Stortini. A proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he honorably served as Corporal in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School and Goldey Beacom College. Sylvio worked 20 years for Robino Construction, building many housing and apartment complexes such as Mayfair, Rodney Village, Fairview, Woodcrest, Dover Court Club, Fox Hall, and Sherwood I and II. He then worked for Kent County in Dover for 3 years before retiring from employment with the City of Dover. Sylvio was the President of Dover Little League, worked on the baseball park on Horse Pond Road every weekend for a year, and managed the All Star Team. He worked bingo for numerous years at Holy Cross Church, belonged to a Senior Bowling League, had previously been Commander at Del Vets, was a proud member of the VFW Post 992, enjoyed status a 4th Degree Knight, and served on the board of "Because We Care." He was predeceased by his sister, Sonia Robino. Sylvio is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Madeline (Panaccione) Stortini; son, Michael Stortini (Sheila); daughter, Lisa Wells; and four grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff in the ICU North of Kent General Hospital for their compassionate care of Sylvio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St. in Dover, on Wednesday, July 21 at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning, prior to mass, from 10:00 -11:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
