GEORGETOWN – In several months, longtime Sussex Technical High School Principal Dr. John Demby will be moving from that role to a new administrative position in the district – Supervisor of Student Services.
Sussex Tech’s board of education at its April 14 meeting approved the reassignment, which is effective July 1 of this year.
Dr. Demby has been principal at Sussex Tech for approximately 10 years.
“(Dr. Demby) has an administrative contract with our school district. And we have an opportunity for a Supervisor of Student Services position in the district,” said Sussex Tech Superintendent Dr. Kevin Carson. “In consultation with Dr. Demby we thought that it was a natural fit for him to move to the Supervisor of Student Services position as a reassignment. He has agreed to do so.”
In 2009, then as an assistant principal at Tech, Dr. Demby was named a as the Delaware nominee for the 2009 National Assistant Principal of the Year, sponsored in part by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
With Dr. Demby’s impending reassignment, posting for the new principal is being advertised and, on the street, Dr. Carson said. The posting is scheduled to close April 22.
The district is hoping for a “high quality” application pool, Dr. Carson said.
“We’re going to be expedient with this process in order to be able to have a person available - he or she - by July 1,” said Dr. Carson. “That is our timeframe. It sounds like a long way away but it’s not. It’s the middle of April, so it’s coming fast.”
