Sussex Tech students earn certifications across disciplines

Sussex Technical High School students earned certifications across disciplines this week.

Electronics students

Students this year earned multiple national certifications to advance them in their careers and future education.

Earning the TestOut PC Pro certification, which covers PC hardware, software, and management of Windows operating systems, were:

  • Joseph Favoroso of Milton, senior
  • Lamoni Harmon of Georgetown, senior
  • Casey Olson of Bridgeville, senior
  • Martin Proano of Millsboro, senior
  • Dylan Thompson of Lewes, senior
  • Zachary Wheway of Lincoln, senior
  • Jack Blatz of Laurel, junior
  • Tommy Chen of Seaford, junior
  • Alexander Horan of Lincoln, junior
  • Chase Horton of Millville, junior
  • Jack Morris of Milton, junior
  • Callum Neely of Selbyville, junior
  • Shaun Stanton of Milford, junior
  • Clark West of Delmar, junior

Lamoni and Joseph also recently earned their Student Electronics Technician certification through ETA International, which shows technical knowledge in the field and professionalism. Both will be studying electronics or related subjects in college – Harmon at the University of Delaware and Favoroso at Millersville University.

Students in Sussex Tech’s Electronics and Computer Information Systems technical area also have the opportunity to earn their FCC amateur radio license in their sophomore year.

The electronics program, under the direction of Dr. Anthony Carmen, covers coursework and hands-on experience in basic electronics, DC and AC circuits, semiconductors, micro-processors, computer repair, networking, audio systems repair and process control.

Career paths for graduates include telecommunications, electronic engineering, computer repair, network engineering, radio and television engineering and industrial robotics, among others.

Automative students

Seniors passing their Automotive Service Excellence tests in at least one subject were:

  • Patrick Bradford of Lincoln
  • Nicholas Cataldi of Seaford
  • Cole Fluharty of Lewes
  • Rajeev Girdhari of Georgetown
  • Chris Lewis of Frankford
  • Daniel Rushing of Laurel

Sussex Technical High School’s Automotive Technologies program, under the direction of H.J. Bunting, covers operation and maintenance of engine components and vehicle operating systems, electrical, engine repair, heating and air conditioning, steering, suspension and brakes.

Career paths for graduates include auto/diesel technician, shop supervisor, serviceperson, dealership operator, service writer or engine repair technician.

Criminal justice

Sussex Technical High School criminal justice students recently earned state security guard licenses and 9-1-1 emergency telecommunicator certifications to assist in their future careers or continuing education.

Students earning the Delaware security officer certification are now qualified to work as security officers in Delaware or any state with reciprocity, with certifications valid for five years. The 18 seniors passing the state exam and earning their licenses were:

Sussex Technical High School’s Legal Support Services and Criminal Justice program, under the direction of Steve Rust and Erin Taylor, covers topics including law, emergency services, security services, crime scene investigation, human services and correction services.

Career paths for graduates include law enforcement, legal services and emergency and fire management, among others.

Business students

Sussex Technical High School business, finance and marketing students recently earned a host of national certifications to help them in their future careers or continuing education.

Completing their Accounting I certification, with a 100 percent pass rate and a class average score of 90 percent, were sophomores:
