GEORGETOWN — Two Sussex County employees who were among several dozen nominated for exceptional customer service over the first quarter of 2019 recently earned special kudos.
County Library Department employee Gerri Gorlich received honorable mention recognition, while Teresa Ciekot of the Recorder of Deeds Department was selected as the overall first-quarter honoree.
Employees were recognized at the March 12 county council meeting.
In presenting the two honorees, Sussex County Finance Director Gina Jennings said Ms. Gorlich took it upon herself to research and create documentation to help library patrons with the new state computers.
“The new computers came with new functions that our customers were not familiar with,” said Ms. Jennings. “She documented the new functions with screen shots and came up with suggestions to help the patrons, which enhanced their experience at the library.”
While on vacation out of state, Ms. Ciekot went above and beyond the call of duty when her back-up called out sick.
“Knowing how important her functions are to the office, she walked another person through the process over the phone for two hours. Teresa’s dedication and work ethic during this time demonstrated the internal customer service that she possesses,” Ms. Jennings said.
Thirty employees received recognition from other employees and customers in the first quarter.
As the overall honoree, Ms. Ciekot receives a trophy and a bonus vacation day.
In 2015, Sussex County launched Give’Em the Pickle, an employee recognition initiative developed by nationally recognized motivational speaker Bob Farrell.
Employees may be nominated by co-workers, supervisors, customers or county residents. A committee comprised of supervisors and employees review all the submittals.
Recipients are publicly recognized at county council meetings during each quarter.
